Exceedingly rare and elegant at the same time, these platinum clips of 'whirlpool' design, are set throughout with old-cut diamonds. The realistic and whimsical ribbon of diamonds seemingly disappears into fabric when clipped onto a lapel, giving the impression that it spirals through the lapel.
The ‘whirlpool’ or spiral design is a motif that was used by prominent French maisons during the 1930s. and generally associated with the jewels of Belperron and Boivin, as they tended to be more avant-garde, experimenting with three-dimensional shapes of movement expressed in non-traditional material. Yet, more classical jewelers such as Mellerio. Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron experimented with these new forms. According to the Boucheron archives, only two pairs of ‘whirlpool’ clips were created in 1935, making this example exceedingly rare.
Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Boucheron stating that the clips are Boucheron and were made in circa 1935.
